Sales Engineer
Job Description
The Sales Engineer in Malaysia is the technical bridge between client requirements and infrastructure capabilities. In the context of Malaysia’s digital boom—centered in Cyberjaya (KL) and the Johor (JB) corridor—you are responsible for designing technical solutions that meet the rapid deployment needs of hyperscalers and enterprises. You must balance high-performance power and cooling specs with Malaysia’s unique environmental and regulatory factors, such as high humidity and TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) power quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Solution Architecting: Convert client IT needs into a physical facility solution, specifying rack densities, power redundancy (N+1/2N), and cooling requirements.
- Proposal & RFP Management: Lead the technical response for “Request for Proposals,” ensuring all engineering specifications, PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) calculations, and floor loading data are accurate.
- Pre-Sales Consultation: Conduct technical workshops and site tours to showcase facility resilience, fiber diversity, and security protocols to potential clients.
- Capacity Tracking: Work closely with the Design and Ops teams to ensure proposed client footprints fit within the available “White Space” and power envelope.
- Regulatory & Utility Advisory: Guide clients on local compliance, including Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) electrical requirements and MIDA/MDEC incentives for digital investments.
- Market Competitive Analysis: Monitor the technical offerings of competitors in the KL and Johor markets to ensure your facility’s “speed-to-market” and efficiency stay ahead.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Telecommunications Engineering.
- 5+ years in technical sales or engineering, with a strong focus on Data Center Colocation, UPS systems, or HVAC.
- Solid understanding of the data center “power chain” (from substation to PDU) and cooling architectures (Chilled Water/Direct Expansion).
- Exceptional presentation skills in English. Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia or Mandarin is a significant advantage for dealing with local vendors and regional stakeholders.
- Ability to link technical specs to business ROI, helping clients understand the cost-saving benefits of high-efficiency designs.
