Sales Engineer
Job Description
The Sales Engineer (Data Centers) drives the technical commercial strategy for hyperscale and colocation infrastructure across Malaysia’s rapidly growing digital hubs. Based in Jakarta, you act as the primary technical advisor during the sales cycle, bridging the gap between a client’s IT requirements and the facility’s engineering capabilities. You are responsible for designing high-performance power and cooling solutions that leverage Malaysia’s competitive land and power costs while ensuring compliance with global uptime standards and local sustainability mandates.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Solution Design: Translate client IT requirements into detailed facility configurations, including rack layouts, power density (kW/rack), and redundancy levels (N+1/2N).
- Technical Bid Ownership: Lead the technical response for RFPs, providing detailed specifications on UPS topologies, thermal management, and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) projections.
- Consultative Discovery: Conduct site tours and technical workshops to demonstrate the facility’s structural and MEP resilience against local environmental risks.
- Utility & Connectivity Advisory: Navigate Jakarta’s utility landscape, providing insights into PLN power dual-feeds, onsite backup generation, and local telco (Telkom, Indosat, etc.) diversity.
- Commercial Support: Assist the sales team in building Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, highlighting the energy efficiency of the design to lower operational costs.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Partner with the Operations and Engineering teams to ensure that “sold” solutions are technically feasible within the facility’s capacity limits.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- 6+ years in technical sales or applications engineering, with a focus on Data Centers, Critical Power, or Telecom.
- Deep knowledge of critical power chains (UPS, STS, PDU), precision cooling (CRAH/Chilled Water), and DCIM tools.
- Familiarity with Indonesian electrical standards (PUIL), building codes, and the Jakarta infrastructure ecosystem.
- Professional fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is essential for negotiating with both global clients and local engineering teams.
- Ability to simplify complex technical architectures for C-level business stakeholders.
