The Lead Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for a specific data center site or portfolio in Singapore. You take ownership of the mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems to ensure the facility meets the strict uptime requirements of global hyperscale clients. You bridge the gap between high-level design and site-level maintenance, ensuring the facility operates efficiently within Singapore’s tropical climate and regulatory framework.
Responsibilities
- Direct the daily maintenance and operation of critical power and cooling systems, including UPS, generators, and chilled water plants.
- Drive a “Zero Downtime” strategy by identifying technical risks and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
- Act as the senior technical lead during equipment failures to ensure rapid recovery and conduct detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Monitor Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and implement optimization strategies to meet Singapore’s Green Mark standards.
- Supervise specialized M&E contractors to ensure all servicing and repairs meet strict technical specifications.
- Lead technical site improvements and equipment replacements without interrupting live operations.
- Maintain site standards in accordance with Singapore’s BCA, NEA, and EMA regulations, including mandatory licensing and safety checks.
- Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and technicians to maintain a high-performing operations team.
Qualification and skills
- Extensive experience in operating mission-critical facilities, such as data centers, semiconductor plants, or large-scale hospitals.
- Deep knowledge of high-voltage electrical distribution, cooling tower systems, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. A Professional Engineer (PE) or LEW (Licensed Electrical Worker) status in Singapore is highly preferred.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot complex engineering failures and translate data into actionable technical reports.
- Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with global stakeholders.
- Comprehensive understanding of Singapore’s Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) standards and fire safety codes.
- Familiarity with SS 507 or SS 564 standards for data center operations and energy management.
