Project Construction Director
Job Description
To provide senior leadership and oversight for the construction of data center facilities across our Japan pipeline. In this role, you will set construction strategy, direct multiple project teams, and hold ultimate accountability for safety, quality, schedule, and cost across all active builds. You’ll act as the primary construction authority liaising with executive leadership, clients, and key contractors, ensuring the region’s construction program is delivered to the highest standards and scales to meet business growth.
Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee construction delivery across all active data center projects in Japan, providing leadership to Project Managers and site teams
- Define construction strategy, standards, and best practices, ensuring consistency across projects and alignment with global company standards
- Own overall accountability for construction safety performance, driving a strong safety culture across all sites
- Lead contractor and vendor selection strategy, including tendering, negotiation, and management of major construction contracts
- Oversee construction budgets and forecasts at the program level, identifying and addressing cost or schedule risks early
- Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, including clients, landowners, authorities, and key subcontractors
- Provide construction input into site selection, feasibility studies, and early-stage project planning
- Report construction program status, risks, and forecasts to executive leadership on a regular basis
- Mentor and develop Project Managers and construction staff, building internal capability across the region
Qualification and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree a plus
- Extensive experience in senior construction leadership roles, with a strong track record delivering data center or other large-scale mission-critical facilities in Japan
- Deep knowledge of construction methods, MEP integration, and regulatory requirements for critical facilities
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple concurrent large-scale projects and multi-disciplinary teams
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience with major contract negotiation and budget ownership at the program level
- Established network of contractors, consultants, and industry contacts within the Japan construction market
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills
- Business-level Japanese and English proficiency preferred
