Commissioning Manager
Job Description
To lead the commissioning of critical infrastructure systems for data center projects, ensuring power, cooling, and control systems perform to design intent before facilities go live. In this role, you will develop and execute commissioning plans across all project phases, manage commissioning agents and vendors, and work closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to validate system readiness. You’ll be responsible for ensuring facilities meet the rigorous reliability and performance standards expected of mission-critical environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop commissioning plans and schedules covering Levels 1–5 (factory testing through integrated systems testing) for electrical, mechanical, and controls systems
- Coordinate and oversee commissioning agents, vendors, and subcontractors throughout all commissioning phases
- Review design documents and specifications to ensure commissionability and identify potential issues early in the project lifecycle
- Manage factory witness testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) for critical equipment, including generators, UPS, switchgear, chillers, and CRAC/CRAH units
- Lead integrated systems testing (IST), validating system performance under simulated failure and load conditions
- Track and manage commissioning issues logs, ensuring timely resolution and sign-off with stakeholders
- Coordinate commissioning schedules with construction and fit-out completion milestones to avoid delays
- Ensure commissioning documentation, test scripts, and reports meet client and industry standards
- Support handover to operations teams, including training and knowledge transfer on system performance and functionality
Qualification and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Proven experience leading commissioning for data center or other mission-critical facilities in Japan
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including power distribution, UPS, generators, and cooling systems
- Experience managing multi-level commissioning processes (Cx Levels 1–5) and integrated systems testing
- Familiarity with industry commissioning standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute)
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues under time pressure
- Excellent documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills
- Business-level Japanese and English proficiency preferred
