Lead Electrical Engineer
Job Description
Our client, a leading Engineering Consultancy, is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join their team in Vietnam on a permanent basis. This role will take ownership of electrical engineering design and delivery for mission-critical data center projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure high-quality, code-compliant, and future-ready electrical systems.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical leadership, deep knowledge of data center electrical infrastructure, and the ability to manage design teams through all project phases — from concept through construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering design for data center projects, including power distribution, standby/backup power, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, and grounding/lightning protection systems.
- Develop and review electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, load calculations, cable sizing, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with local Vietnamese codes, international standards (IEC, NFPA, TIA-942, Uptime Institute), and client/data center industry best practices.
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and civil engineering teams to ensure integrated, coordinated design delivery.
- Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers, reviewing their work for technical accuracy and quality.
- Liaise directly with clients, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to resolve technical queries and secure approvals.
- Oversee tender documentation, technical specifications, and BOQ preparation for electrical works.
- Support construction-phase activities including site inspections, RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, and commissioning oversight.
- Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, redundancy improvements, and resiliency in electrical system design.
- Ensure project delivery is on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations and quality standards.
Key Requirements and Skills
- Strong technical expertise in electrical power systems design for mission-critical facilities, particularly data centers.
- Proficiency with design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, ETAP, or similar electrical design/simulation software.
- Solid understanding of redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N) and Tier classification standards (Uptime Institute / TIA-942).
- Strong leadership, team management, and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients and authorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Working knowledge of Vietnamese electrical codes and permitting/approval processes is highly advantageous.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; Vietnamese language skills are a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Minimum 10+ years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 4–5 years focused specifically on data center or mission-critical facility projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent local certification preferred.
- Proven track record leading electrical design teams on large-scale data center or critical infrastructure projects.
- Experience working within a consultancy or design engineering environment is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel to project sites within Vietnam as required.
