Design Manager

Job Description

The Senior M&E Manager leads the end-to-end delivery and technical governance of Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems for hyperscale data center projects. In this high-impact role, you act as the primary technical authority, ensuring that critical power and cooling infrastructure—such as MV/LV distribution, UPS clusters, and chilled water plants—operates with 100% reliability. You bridge the gap between complex engineering designs and onsite construction, managing tier-1 contractors and specialized vendors to deliver facilities that meet global Uptime Institute standards. Your expertise is vital in navigating mission-critical testing (Levels 1–5) and ensuring a seamless transition from construction to live operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead M&E Project Lifecycle by overseeing the full scope of mechanical and electrical works, from design coordination and procurement to construction and final commissioning.
  • Direct Technical Design Reviews by auditing engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical submittals to ensure alignment with site standards and data center operational constraints.
  • Manage Critical Infrastructure by overseeing the installation and testing of HVAC (CRAC/CRAH), power distribution, generators, and fire protection systems.
  • Oversee Commissioning & Qualification by leading FAT/SAT and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) to verify that all failover and redundancy sequences operate as intended.
  • Drive Vendor & Contractor Performance by managing multiple specialized subcontractors and third-party consultants to ensure high-quality workmanship and timely delivery.
  • Control Budget & Schedule by monitoring project costs, managing variation orders (VOs), and tracking physical progress against the master project schedule.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance by liaising with local authorities and consultants to maintain adherence to building codes, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Facilitate Handover to Operations by ensuring all O&M manuals, as-built drawings, and operational runbooks (MOPs/SOPs/EOPs) are accurate and complete.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  •  8–10+ years of project management experience, with at least 5 years specifically focused on Data Center or mission-critical construction.
  • Possess deep knowledge of M&E systems, including HV/LV power, UPS topologies, chillers, cooling towers, and fuel management.
  • Offer extensive experience in leading Levels 1–5 commissioning and complex integrated system failure simulations.
  • Familiar with local building codes, fire safety regulations (BOMBA/SCDF), and international standards such as TIA-942 or Uptime Institute.
  • Skilled in using BIM (Revit), AutoCAD, and project management platforms like Primavera P6 or Procore.
  • Excel at managing diverse technical teams and translating complex engineering risks into clear updates for stakeholders.
